He was first a missionary to the Choctaw in Mississippi, then to Oberlin, OH where he was one of the founders of the College and community, then he taught African Americans in NY, invented the Stewart Stove which was endorsed by the Beecher sisters in the book and then in the booklet they went with the stove, he urged a diet using wholesome flour mentioning Graham Bread.
